Western States Caterpillar was getting job applicants. That wasn’t the problem. The problem was they weren’t getting the right kind of applicants. Jobs at Caterpillar are demanding. And they demand a high degree of technical apptitude. The best of the best - those who get their own truck - earn incomes that outpace most white collar jobs. The solution was to lean hard into the demands of working for Caterpillar and on Caterpillar equipment. If you can’t handle working on the most advanced equipment in the most demanding environments, then you’re not Western States Caterpillar material. But if you have the right stuff Caterpillar is more than a job… it’s a means of building a life. Not only did the number of applicants increase, crucially job placement increaased.
